IN THE GHETTO

This song sums up the devastation of the American family.  Released in 1969.... saddest, TRUEST, song I've ever listened to.  In a nation where a person can become anything they choose.... why do so many choose to remain on the government teat, existing on the largess of  WORKING Americans.... and never striving for the pride and self esteem of ACHIEVEMENT....content to remain on the plantation while never knowing what it is like to actually EARN an income..... If you cannot succeed in America.... God help you, because you are incapable of helping yourself.

  1. Good rendition of the song. I like Lisa Marie. Perfection when she dubs with her father. <3
While I understand the jobs are scarce, I also have friends and family members who accept jobs below their qualifications. Also those that work 2 part time jobs and take on any side jobs they can find.
Some would rather remain on "aid" It says a lot about where a persons "pride" is focused.

    1. I so agree, RM.... it's sad so many people today will never know the pride of EARNING an income.... a job keeps you off the street, gives you pride in accomplishment, and it the only way out of the ghetto.... I hate that so many are working 2-3 jobs.... that isn't America..... we have a government out of control and I truly believe it's their plan to KEEP people in poverty and beholding to Uncle Sugar..... so very sad......

  2. Firebird - not necessarily disagreeing with the basics of your post but "working 2-3 jobs.... that isn't America" - I must have done it wrong for over 40 years then. I frequently worked that many, and sometimes went to school at the same time. That allowed me to set up a reasonably comfortable retirement that I earned and now allows me to volunteer or work on MY terms. Perhaps I am some sort of anomaly......................

    1. I totally agree about the 2-3 jobs.... this is the norm now (sadly) because of Obamacare and companies cutting employee hours to stay under the requirements to provide expensive insurance. This is wrong on so many levels... it's illegal and unconstitutional for the government to force anyone to buy a produce - sadly, Chief Justice Roberts was reluctant to let this legislation fail so he 'found' a way to shove it through. Same can be said for earlier courts finding a right to abortion, but that's an argument for another day. There ARE solutions to the economy-killing ACA, beginning with letting people purchase insurance across state lines - a/k/a COMPETITION. We have to get the government OUT of the healthcare business - there is NOTHING that the government has taken over that is better because of it.

As for lots of part time jobs..... sometimes it's necessary, like you say, to fit in your schedule. But in this generation of young people wanting it all NOW.... young people have to be willing to start at the bottom - very few are blessed to start at the top - unless daddy owns the company! In my mind, only two things will break the vicious cycle of poverty - which promotes a society of young people with too much time on their hands - and that is an education and a parent/parents who INSIST that their kids take advantage of the education that's available. While it may not be perfect - it IS free.... Education opens the doors to more education, better jobs, and a chance to break the cycle of poverty. Those IN poverty - IN the ghetto, are NOT being helped by a government that gives them enough freebies to REMAIN DEPENDENT! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
